I started Nabaroo two years ago with a mission to build an online network exclusively for creatives, one that would provide inspiration, community, and professional opportunity. My goal has always been to have a full social network and not just a portfolio site. The site has grown quite a lot since inception, but I’ve struggled to make the funding work out. I don’t believe in filling the site with ads, and I don’t believe in charging the user. Ultimately, I think the best way to make money is by helping to make artists’ money.
In recent months I came across the online community Ello and saw them as pursuing the same goals I was with Nabaroo. I reached out and we started talking about how we could join forces over our aligned goals. Ello is a registered Public Benefit Corp with a legal mandate to never sell ads or personal data to third parties. I’ve been very impressed with their passionate, talented team and the support they show the artist community with interviews, creative contests, and prize money. Ello’s focus is clearly on supporting the creative community, amplifying their work, and putting money in artist’s pockets.
In the coming weeks, your Nabaroo account will be migrated to an Ello account - posts, Nabs, follows, likes, etc. Nabaroo members will be migrated in three groups:
1. Members who already have Ello accounts - I was excited to find out how many Nabaroo members already have Ello accounts. I encourage you to continue to be active there. We will try to map relationships with other Nabaroo members once they are migrated. Use your current Ello login info to access your account.
2. Members with Usernames already taken on Ello - Not many of you fortunately, but I know it’s a bummer. Ello will assign a temp login for your new Ello account that you can change easily.
3. All other Nabaroo members - We will migrate your entire account and your username will remain the same as on Nabaroo. Ello will provide temporary login credentials.
If you have any questions about your Nabaroo account or about Ello, you will be able to email me directly for the next few months. Ello will be sending a follow-up email soon to welcome you to the Ello community and to provide updates on the migration.
